Sócrates: The Philosophy of Football

There are prolific footballers and then there's Sócrates Brasileiro Sampaio de Souza Vieira de Oliveira.

As well as holding a doctorate in medicine -earning him the moniker "Doctor Socrates"- Socrates made 63 appearances for Brazil during the seventies and eighties as an attacking midfielder.

His iconic facial scruff and headband became 'the symbol of cool for a whole generation of footie fanatic, but Socrates was more than just a pretty face. Gifted with an incredible mind for the game he was renowned for his great passing, incredible physical strength and ability to read the field.

Our eye-catching, retro-flavoured Socrates T-shirts honour one of the greatest midfielders ever to play the game and is just on of our many designs that pay homage to icons of football's past and present. To see which other players have made it into the PunkFootball hall of fame click here.
